Camels were introduced to the United States by the military in the 1850's. However very few camels were used in military service. Many of them were turned loose and they became wild animals. At one time in the southwest part of the U.S. they were considered varmits and were hunted until they became extinct as wild animals. In one state it is still legal to shoot a wild camel. Of course that will not happen because there are no longer any wild camels to hunt.

Mitilda is a camel that is owned by George and Sherel Stone. They are both child and family psychologists. They use their camel in their child therapy. These photos were taken in Riverside California. However I wanted to photograph Mitilda to look as if it were the middle of the Austrailan desert. So we found a place that was free of congestion and used the late afternoon light to give that desert feeling.

I hope you enjoy the photos of Miltida the camel.
